First Catalogue

publication

Every year, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago invites their first-year, first-semester students to each produce a single piece of artwork for publication. The result is FIRST, a collection of images and ideas, a valuable archive of student work, and a treasured memento for the participants.

The FIRST catalogue was not meant to be the Best of... but rather a snapshot of what was going on during the beginning of a student's time at SAIC. Drawing inspiration from long exposure photography, the publication is developed around this idea to capture a sense of movement, transformation and uncertainty at the starting point of a student's artistic career.
